North American N Scale Model Railway Layout - "Southern City"
Kato Unitram and Unitrack
This freelance model railway layout is 66" x 37" (167 cm x 92 cm). It was designed for my father to replace his USA mid-west layout "Mountain Valley". I designed this layout in AnyRail and progressed through several versions before deciding on the final. My concept for this layout was inspired by cities such as Houston and Dallas in the USA. The layout is built around the Kato Unitram layout in the centre with three lines of Unitrack around the outside. Two crossovers were used to connect the three lines and four sidings are provided for storage space. Kato and Tomix structures are combined with a urban style background to archive the dense look of the city. The building and scenic details were all completed by my father Kevin. All of the locos and trams are from Kato which makes the layout a very interesting use of Japanese modelling products.

Tomytec Bus System and Tomix Wide Tram Track - Annex Layout
Shortly after completing the "Southern City" layout, Tomytec released it's Bus System. The Bus System would have also been ideal for the layout but there was no room. A small table near the layout was turned into a "annex" which was ideal for the Tomytec Bus System. The dimensions of the layout are 46" x 29" (117 cm x 74 cm). Again I used the AnyRail program to design something suitable. Two ovals were used for the bus track and a single line for the tram. Two lines of Tomix Mini Rail (C104 and C177) were added around the outside of the table to compliment the layout. Structures and scenery were taken from the spares leftover from building other layouts. All of the layout building and scenic details were all completed by my father Kevin.
